SleepAngel® pillow with PneumaPure® Filter Technology is a clinically proven barrier to allergens, microbes, and mould. The hermetically sealed device is a barrier to microbial contamination, yet well ventilated, breathable and comfortable. This technology was originally created to stop cross infection and to prevent colonisation by bacteria, dust mites, fungi, and other allergens that are commonly found in bedding. About Candida auris
According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Candida auris is an emerging fungus that presents a serious global health threat. CDC is concerned about C. auris for three main reasons:
- – It is often multidrug-resistant, meaning that it is resistant to multiple antifungal drugs commonly used to treat Candida infections. Some strains are resistant to all three available classes of antifungals.
- – It is difficult to identify with standard laboratory methods, and it can be misidentified in labs without specific technology. Misidentification may lead to inappropriate management.
- – It has caused outbreaks in healthcare settings. For this reason, it is important to quickly identify C. auris in a hospitalized patient so that healthcare facilities can take special precautions to stop its spread.
Candida auris is an emerging fungal pathogen that has caused outbreaks of invasive healthcare-associated infections worldwide. Candida auris is frequently resistant to fluconazole, and multidrug-resistant and even pandrug-resistant C. auris isolates have also been described, thus leaving very few treatment options (source: Increasing number of cases and outbreaks caused by Candida auris in the EU/EEA, 2020 to 2021).

Recent evaluation by Prof. Valerie Edwards-Jones (Emeritus Professor of Medical Microbiology, Manchester Metropolitan University, UK) studied the effectiveness of SleepAngel® Medical Barrier Bedding in preventing interior contamination of bedding from Candida auris and concluded: “C. albicans was used to represent all Candida sp including C. auris. As the physiological characteristics of C. auris is very similar to C. albicans I would agree that the SleepAngel® PneumaPure® filter technology would prevent C. auris from contaminating bedding interiors with the same efficiency (100%) as C. albicans.”
